The Monstera is often confused with P. bipinnatifidum, otherwise known as the split-leaf philodendron. Both plants bear similar split leaves and growing habits as house plants. But the Monstera is not a philodendron and in its natural habitat is fruit-bearing (hence the “deliciosa” name!). The Philodendron Hope Selloum (Philodendron bipinnatifidum), recently reclassified Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum or the Tree Philodendron, is a hardy native of the tropical regions of South America.

No, they are two different plants. Although they might look similar, especially when they are young, Monsteras and split-leaf Philodendrons are of a different genus and species despite being of the same scientific class, order, and family. The Monstera is often confused with P. bipinnatifidum, otherwise known as the split-leaf philodendron. Both plants bear similar split leaves and growing habits as house plants.
